As each individual's situation is different, we offer a great deal of supportive service, which can be adapted to meet the needs of the resident. We look at the complete person, what they are able to do independently and where they require some assistance. An assessment of all potential residents is required to determine if The Herrick House is the appropriate environment for an individual.

Absolutely! The Herrick House is fully accessible to wheelchairs. While residents use wheelchairs full-time, some residents may only use a wheelchair escort to the Dining room as they are unable to walk long distances, but would otherwise use a walker or cane to carry out their activities of daily living.

Yes, we accept with these conditions. Some residents with early stages of memory loss can do very well within the structure and services of our traditional assisted living community while others would do better in our Special Care Unit. An assessment of the potential resident will be done to determine whether or not the Traditional assisted living setting or the Special Care Unit would be the most appropriate environment for the individual.

No - incontinence is a very common problem. we always inquire how the individual is managing their incontinence and if they would do well or better managing with our support. Very often the support of our incontinence program (i.e. deodorized pails, Depends, and assistance) can be very successful. Our staff is very sensitive to what a difficult issue this can be and what a difference a little help in this area can make in a person's self-esteem and confidence. If a person became completely incontinent of bowel or bladder, this would indicate the need for a setting that could provide more care than The Herrick House could offer.

Yes, we offer three meals a day, served by trained waitstaff, in our elegant Dining Room, which helps to encourage socialization and good nutrition. The residents order from a daily menu and have several options to choose from. For breakfast, residents can select a hot, cooked-to-order breakfast or cold selections (fruits, cereals). For lunch and dinner, residents can start with soup or salad and order one of two entrees. In addition, sandwiches can be ordered from the alternative menu. Special diets are available, as needed.

We are always happy to provide resources and information for the resident and family to aid in this decision-making process. Our social worker will help with placement once the resident and family have chosen the nursing home.

We offer an "Enhanced Care" package for an additional charge. We will always discuss the resident's situation with family before any additional charges are added. The family also has the option of bringing in their own extra help if they choose to do so. If the level of care required indicates that it is time for a nursing home, a family meeting will be scheduled to discuss the situation and begin the process.

The Herrick House offers 74 traditional assisted living apartments and 14 apartments designed to care for the resident with a cognitive impairment. Both studio and one bedroom apartments are available, ranging in size from 360 square feet to 517 square feet.

Yes, heat and air conditioning are controlled individually within the apartments. The screened windows can also be opened to provide fresh air.

Occasionally, a doctor will make a house call, depending upon their relationship with a resident. Residents choose their own doctor and go out to the physician's office for their medical appointments. The Herrick House can provide transportation in The Herrick House car or van to the resident's physician of choice. Because of the availability of so many physicians on the Beverly Hospital campus, many residents have changed their physicians to one on the campus to take advantage of the convenience and ease of coordinating care.

No, The Herrick House is not covered by Medicare, and is a 100% private pay residence. Residents who have Long Term Care Insurance may use that to help pay for the cost of living at The Herrick House.

It is seldom that a person must leave The Herrick House due to financial reasons.  Finances are discussed at admission, and residents are required to have sufficient funds to last the average length of stay.  In the event that a residen's money runs out, we work with the resident and family well ahead of time to find the best solution, whether it be a skilled nursing facility or another Assisted Living residence that offers subsidizing programs.
